Disabling SSH configuration issues warning on the Summary tab in ESX/ESXi 4.1 and 5.0

Symptoms

After enabling SSH or ESXi Shell access on an ESX/ESXi 4.1 and 5.0 host, the vSphere Client Summary tab displays warnings indicating that there are configuration issues.
  • You may see messages such as:
ESXi shell for the host has been enabled
SSH for the host has been enabled

Cause

These warnings indicate that settings have been enabled or that settings may require configuration on the ESXi console.

Resolution

To suppress informational warnings related to SSH and ESXi shell access:
  1. Select the ESXi host in the Inventory.
  2. Click the Configuration tab.
  3. Under Software, click Advanced Settings.
  4. Click UserVars.
  5. Change the value of UserVars.SuppressShellWarning to 1.
  6. Click OK.
