vSphere 6 has greater capacity than vSphere 5.5.

vCenter Server has the following configuration maximums:

Embedded database:
vCenter Server on Windows: 20 hosts or 200 virtual machines
vCenter Server Appliance: 1,000 hosts or 10,000 virtual machines

A cluster has the following configuration maximums:
64 hosts in a cluster
8,000 virtual machines per cluster

A host has the following configuration maximums:
480 physical CPUs per ESXi host
6 TB of RAM per ESXi host (12 TB of RAM on specific OEM platforms)
1,024 virtual machines per ESXi host
